Who can attend?

Q: Can anyone attend, even if they’re not Catholic?
K
L

A: Yes! At Church of the Resurrection, Bryanston, we welcome all people, regardless of their religious background, beliefs, or even lack of beliefs. Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to participate in the Mass and explore the faith at their own pace.

Q: Do I need to be baptised or Catholic to attend Mass?
K
L

A: No. Baptism or being a member of the Catholic Church is not required to attend a Mass. All are welcome to observe and join the community.

Q: Will I be expected to participate in the Mass?
K
L

A: Visitors are invited to participate to the extent they feel comfortable. You may join in prayers and songs, or simply observe quietly. However, only Catholics who are in a state of grace (have recently confessed serious sins) are invited to receive the Eucharist, which is a deeply sacred part of the service. Visitors can receive a blessing by crossing their arms over their chest at the altar during Communion.

Q: What if I just want to learn more about Catholicism?
K
L

A: Attending Mass can be a wonderful way to learn more about Catholic beliefs and practices. You may also contact the parish for programs like RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults), where people explore Catholic teachings in more depth: rcia@bryanstoncatholic.co.za

Q: Is there a dress code?
K
L

A: While there’s no strict dress code, modest and respectful attire is encouraged as a way of honouring the sacred space.

Q: Are there any special days or celebrations that might be good for a newcomer to attend?
K
L

A: Major celebrations like Easter, Christmas and feast days can offer a vibrant experience of Catholic faith and community. Sunday Mass is also a weekly opportunity to experience the tradition and rhythm of the faith.

Q: Will I be pressured to join or convert?
K
L

A: Not at all. The Catholic Church values every person's individual journey of faith. You are welcome to visit, learn, and participate to whatever extent you feel called.
