Vocations Sunday – 2024

In Pope Francis’ message for Vocations Sunday, he focuses on the theme: “Called to sow seeds of hope and to build peace”.

Though the global situation risks plunging people into pessimism, Christians are called to pursue their vocation of becoming ‘men and women of hope’. ‘As individuals and as communities, amid the variety of charisms and ministries, all of us are called to embody and communicate the Gospel message of hope in a world marked by epochal challenges.’

The Pope encouraged Christians to ‘cultivate a gaze full of hope and work fruitfully in response to the vocation we have received, in service to God’s kingdom of love, justice and peace’.

To be ‘pilgrims of hope and builders of peace’ means ‘to base our lives on the rock of Christ’s resurrection, knowing that every effort made in the vocation that we have embraced and seek to live out will never be in vain’.

VOCATION REFLECTION:

On this Good Shepherd Sunday we celebrate World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Pray for an increase in vocations to priesthood, diaconate, and religious life. May God raise up good shepherds in our midst. (1 John 15:1-8).

Prayer for Vocations

Almighty God,
You have given me the gift of life,
and the gift of your Holy Spirit.
For these incredible gifts, I thank you. Help me to use them well.
Deepen within me a desire to do your will. Help me to hear and answer your call to serve you.
Guide me to the vocation you have chosen for me, as a loving spouse and parent in the Sacrament of Marriage, as a single person living a life of generous service, or through a special call to serve you in Religious Life or the Priesthood.
May your Holy Spirit keep me always close to your Son Jesus, and help me to say yes to Him  with the gift of my life.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen
