The Durban Catholic Players Guild is hosting the Durban Passion Play in the Playhouse Drama Theatre in central Durban from the 6 -16 April 2023. The Play depicts the Passion of Christ from Palm Sunday to the Resurrection on Easter. Durban is the only city in the world, besides the original town of Oberammergau in Bavaria, Germany, that performs the Passion Play. Bishop Denis Hurley in 1952 became the first patron and was instrumental in paving the way to obtaining permission from the town of Oberammergau to stage Christ’s Passion as a performance. The proceeds of the Passion Play are donated to the Denis Hurley Centre, a charity that provides services to the homeless in the streets of Durban. Tickets are R100 (a flat rate) and are available on Webticket under Durban Passion Play.

PRAYER FOR LENT:
Loving God, during the sacred season of Lent, bring us closer to you. Prepare a place in our parish and in our hearts for silence and solitude, so that we may rediscover the grace of a prayerful life. Help us to fast from those things that threaten the well-being of our bodies and souls; remind us of the grace of simplicity. Grant us generous hearts so that we can give to those in need and, in so doing, rediscover the grace of gratitude and generosity. May this season be a grace-filled time to rekindle a love for you. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
